After nearly 30 years with Kumon Canning Vale, Frances is ready to pass on the torch
24 Jun 2023
Kumon Canning Vale is a pillar of quality education for the local community. Frances Davenport, a former school teacher, is the franchisee of Kumon Canning Vale Education Centre in Perth’s southern suburbs. Throughout her nearly 30-year career, Frances instructed generations of students through the Kumon Method of Learning and witnessed their passion for learning develop. “I love what Kumon does for children, how these shy little people blossom when they achieve something”, Frances says. “They get so excited. Then when they succeed in class as a result of what they have been doing at Kumon, the difference it makes in them, and just watching them develop is what has kept me going”. “Would you believe, I now have two little girls studying with me who are the daughters of one of my original pupils?” Frances has developed many similar relationships throughout her decades of experience with Kumon. She speaks about a chance encounter with one of her former students at the markets, who is now grown up and working as an audiologist. She also recalls a chance encounter with a former Kumon parent whose son is now a lawyer. In both cases, they attribute their success to the support of Kumon Canning Vale. In another case about a current student, Frances was invited as a guest-of-honour to attend a ceremony at a local temple for one of her Sikh students because this father was so grateful for the support of Kumon Canning Vale. Frances says these relationships are a unique and integral part of being a Kumon franchisee. Due to health reasons, Frances is ready to pass the torch of Kumon Canning Vale to a new franchisee. Her centre is up for sale. “Kumon has a lot of rewards and I get great job satisfaction. That's why I've stuck with it for so long.”, Frances says. **Owning and operating a Kumon franchise is the perfect opportunity for people who love working with children, their community, and who want to make a difference by developing the skill of self-learning in students.
