Contribute to your community as the new franchisee of Kumon Banksia Grove
23 Jun 2023
Rekha Sekhon has had an international career as a Kumon franchisee, contributing to the learning and nurturing of children in both Australia and Kenya. Rekha opened her first Kumon franchise in 2001 in Kenya. She is a Kumon parent who saw first hand the benefits of Kumon in her own children. This motivated her to open her first Kumon centre. “Both of my children used to study the Kumon worksheets in my Dad's supermarket. The customers used to keep coming and asking me if I had made these worksheets because they look so interesting”, Rekha explains. “The more the interest on a daily basis from the clientele in that area, the more curious I became to set up a Kumon centre.” “That and my children's progress in the Kumon program, plus the interest that I have in maths and English, led me to explore this avenue of becoming a Kumon franchisee”. After moving to Australia in 2006, Rekha opened her current franchise two years later in 2008. Her franchise is Kumon Banksia Grove Education Centre in Perth’s northeast, which has contributed to the education of hundreds of local students since its establishment. “I think the most rewarding aspect I have found is seeing the change in the students I have helped to nurture to realise their potential over all these years”, Rekha says. “Over the last 20 years, I've learnt of former students who have grown up to become a doctor, a geologist, an engineer, a teacher, a nutritionist, and so forth. The change I see in students as they progress through the Kumon Program fills me with me a great sense of achievement and satisfaction”. Rekha is also proud of the team of assistants she has developed over the years and thankful for her own professional development as a Kumon franchisee. Now, Rekha has placed her Kumon Banksia Grove Centre on the market for another passionate instructor to take forward. “I feel that I have reached a stage where my time has come to start my new chapter with all the learning I have acquired, thanks to Kumon”, Rekha says. “Once I sell my centre and hand it over to a good franchisee who can look after our students with care, I will use my built up skills to contribute to my community”. **Owning and operating a Kumon franchise is the perfect opportunity for people who love working with children, their community, and who want to make a difference by developing the skill of self-learning in students.
